Fix for HMC Version 7 Release 3.4.0

This package includes fixes for HMC Version 7 Release 3.4.0 (SP0) only. You can reference this package by APAR MB02892.

Installing MH01163 requires one of the following:

• MH01097, the HMC V7R3.3.0 recovery image, plus MH01109, the upgrade to HMC V7R3.4.0
• MH01147, the HMC V7R3.4.0 recovery image

This update (MH01163) supersedes MH01152.

This package includes the following enhancements and fixes:

• Fixed problem where users could not expand objects in the Manage Tasks and Resources panel.
• Fixed a problem that caused E332FFFF and E355004C to call home.
• Fixed a problem that caused E332FFFF and E35F0020 to call home.
• Fixed a problem where the "lslparutil" command returns "No results were found" when data utilization files are present.
• Fixed a problem that prevented firmware levels of managed systems with power subsystems from being reported in call home data.
• Fixed a timing issue during system profile activation.
• Fixed an issue where a user attempts a partition migration using the Validation Panel to select a shared processor pool other than Default pool. The default shared processor pool is used instead of the one selected.
• Fixed problem where the Integrated USB was incorrectly identified as a "POWER GXT145 PCI Express Graphics Accelerator.
• Fixed a problem that can result in a HSCS0325 error when running the “view vlan network data" task.
• Fixed problem where after a failed partition migration, the target auto migration recover process may fail.

• Fixed issue where some systems that have a Host Channel Adapter (HCA) would encounter a problem that prohibits the editing of HCA configurations in partition profiles.
• Fixed a problem where the HMC does not allocate memory or processor resource assigned to non- bootable partitions for use with active partition migration.
• Fixed a problem of not using the user specified source and destination Mover Service Partition (MSP) for active partition migration.
• Fixed issue in the Transmit Service Data function to ensure that temporary data files are correctly deleted after being transmitted, thus preventing unnecessary disk space usage.

This package includes the following security fixes:

• Fixed an issue that could cause an inventory gathering error when attempting to create a system plan on a system with a fibre channel adapter with null values for WWNN and WWPN.
• Fixed a problem where the "lshwres -r virtualio --rsubtype eth --level lpar" command sometimes returned an error return code even though the command was successful.
• Fixed a problem where the power frame lock remains locked after firmware updates are performed in parallel to multiple Managed Systems in the same power frame using the updlic command.
• Fixes a problem where reading pre-V7R3.4.0 utilization records fails with message HSCL8016 An unknown error occurred.
• Fixes an intermittent duplicate partition ID in ls partition -dlpar caused by HACMP failover. The problem could lead to subsequent operation failure for commands requiring communication between HMC and the partition.
• Fixes a remote support problem where inbound connectivity to the selected managed system partitions fails with a connection timeout.
• Corrected a problem which caused error code B181341E when synchronizing firmware from the primary to the secondary FSP.
• Fixes an issue whereby Electronic Service Agent does not report the FSP firmware level for high-end systems but instead reports the BPC firmware level twice.
• Added the customer contact email address and the customer-chosen HMC name to the Electronic Service Agent enrollment request.
• Fixes the problem during active partition migration where the actual MSP used in the migration was not what was selected by the user.
• Fixes issue where transmission of collected VPD (Vital Product Data) fails with “Unsuccessfully transmitted service information. Exception Occurred when parsing the XML_INVENTORY … Invalid content was found starting with element 'Value'. No child element is expected at this point. ReturnCode: 5000 ReasonCode: 2050”.

This package includes the following fixes:

• The Repair and Verify Display Service Effect Utility did not display all the system resources that were in use on the Managed System
• Fixed Repair and Verify to handle a "Missing, Downlevel or Invalid FSP Cable" return code correctly
• Fixed Repair and Verify CEC B Node Add to prevent serviceability issues from occurring after Node add task completes and subsequent Administrative Failover
• Fixed a Repair and Verify exception that could occur during Fill and Drain Tool due to missing a value returned by the Get Auto Code Download Status method
• Change order of reconnecting cables during Service Processor Assembly exchange to avoid timeouts while performing service
• Fixed incorrectly displaying non-concurrent panels during FSP concurrent maintenance on multi-CEC POWER6 MMA Repair and Verify Exchange
• Fixes a problem where the POWER6 595 DCA hot repair fails with message “The request failed with PhypRc=808 (0x328) failure for certain configs which require Node evacuation for DCA exchange
• Repair and Verify message clarification for selecting Top vs Bottom GX adapter for POWER6 595
• Fixed issue where POWER6 570 e Node B add displayed HMC instructions to perform “Add Managed System” before AC Power was applied
• Fixed issue where the POWER6 595 Node add panels become misleading and incorrect with non-concurrent HMC panels if firmware concurrent Node maintenance feature is not enabled
• Fixed issue where unrelated refcodes can be displayed by Repair and Verify in abort path
• Fixed issue where network validation was not performed following a Node repair or add task
• Fixed issue during concurrent Node maintenance where if the wrong POWER6 595Node was inadvertently selected to add, Repair and Verify will now display an error panel and clearly identifies the correct Node to select
• Warning panel added indicating that when proceeding with concurrent maintenance of a CEC book, CEC drawer, or GX adapter, customer applications and jobs should be stopped
• Allows the user to cancel out of concurrent maintenance of a CEC book, CEC drawer, or GX adapter when warning panel is displayed
• Fixed an out of memory condition that was possible after running many CEC concurrent maintenance operations without rebooting the HMC
• Caution statement and reference added to prevent the service table from freefalling on POWER6 595
• NAM installation wording changed from turning NAM lead screw clockwise to counter-clockwise
• Added additional information on the Node add Repair and Verify panels for POWER6 595 Memory Add plugging rules such as size, quantity limits, installing in quads, and other rules
• During concurrent GX adapter Add removed a panel directing the SSR to plug the RIO/12X cables into the new GX adapter

A problem has been identified with HMC V7.3.4 where unchecking the “Managed System and Power LIC” check box during the “Change Licensed Internal Code Wizard” will not stop the managed system and power code from getting installed when the user is electing to install only I/O microcode. If the repository selected contains system firmware that can be installed concurrently, the system will remain operational but if the system firmware is a disruptive update, it will be installed disruptively. This problem will be corrected in the release of Service Pack 3 for the V7R3.4.HMC code.

Workaround: Utilize the operating system capability of installing I/O microcode.

 

During a Cold Node Add or Hot Node Repair operation the HMC will vary on the resources it found to the corresponding owning Partition. If the resources are not associated with any Partition or if the resource is associated with a partition which is not in a Running state then HMC will incorrectly report a return code 21 error.

Workaround: Users can ignore the RC=21 being displayed on the RV panel.

 

Hardware maintenance procedures may fail with a HSCS0245, "An unrecoverable HMC internal error has occurred.", when executed on a POWER6 570 or 595 server at firmware level 330 or lower. The failing tasks can include Add FRU, Exchange FRU, and Remove FRU.

Workaround: The problem can be circumvented by upgrading the server firmware to any 340_xxx level..

 

The HMC Management, Open 5250 Console task brings up the Setup 5250 panel however the 5250 telnet session may fail to launch.

 

Attempt to dlpar add/remove processor (proc units or dedicated processor) via GUI on 5250 capable power5 server fails with "Attempted to allocate an amount of 5250 CPW above the maximum setting."

Workaround: The problem can be circumvented by moving the processor using the chhwres command.
